The contraceptive patch contains the same hormones as the contraceptive pill. The patch is worn for 1 week and then changed on the same weekday it was put on. Three patches are used consecutively whereafter there is a break of one week without using the patch. In the week without the patch there is normally menstruation. Hereafter you begin another 3 weeks treatment before next break.
How do they work?
The contraceptive implant prevents ovulation.
The vaginal ring and the contraceptive patch work in the same way as contraceptive pills – which means that they prevent ovulation and sperm from entering the uterus.
Safety
The contraceptive implant has the highest degree of safety (100%) of all methods.
The vaginal ring and the contraceptive patch are just as safe as regular contraceptive pills, meaning that the method is very safe.
