Medication against Fever

A child with a fever is often whimpering, does not want to drink and sleeps uneasy. As long as the child is unaffected (wants to play and hear stories), it is recommended to treat it with antipyretics. When the fever goes down the child often wants to drink a little more. Administering antipyretics around bedtime gives the child a calmer sleep. Paracetamol is an antipyretic and can be bought over the counter in the pharmacy.

Antipyretics containing acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin) should not be administered to children or youngsters. Children less than 2 years old should only be treated with antipyretics after consulting a doctor.
