Abrasions can almost always be treated at home. It is important that you clean the abrasions completely.
There is often dirt in an abrasion, therefore, you must wash it thoroughly with water and soap until it is completely clean. An abrasion should not be covered by band-aid or bandages. The abrasion is better off drying off in the air. Thereby, a crust is formed faster.
If there is redness and swelling of the skin around the abrasion. It can be sign of infection. If you have not been vaccinated for tetanus within the last 10 years.
Very rarely necessary.
